ReNew Salvage

Deconstruction is the selective dismantlement of building components, specifically for re-use, recycling, and waste management. It differs from demolition in that it is environmentally friendly. Some 245,000 houses in the United States are razed each year, generating nearly 20 million tons of debris, according to a 1996 report from the Environmental Protection Agency, the most recent data available. In Vermont, C&D waste waste accounts for approximately 20% of the solid waste stream. ReNew diverts tons of solid waste (250 tons in 2006, and 458 tons in 2007) from landfills through its deconstruction services and gives the materials new life. For example, ReNew sources much of its resale lumber from homes or outbuildings slated for renovation or demolition.  Deconstruction, recycling, and reuse are just three of many ways to reduce construction and demolition (C&D) waste from landfills.  Sample contract language for deconstruction can be found here.

Our crew can give you an estimate on the cost of systematically dismantling your building. You may also donate the salvaged materials to ReNew’s store. Materials donations are tax-deductible.

ReNew is an EPA Certified Renovator, meaning we comply with EPAs stringent lead paint laws. You will want to read the EPA's Renolvate Right Brochure before beginning any deconstruction work.

Diamond Lake 2005

These photos were taken in 2005 at an ecologically sensitive site on Diamond Lake, NH (feeder stream at left).  ReNew deconstructed a 2400 sq ft cabin in 7 days with 5 staff.  No heavy equipment was used, and no sediment created.   6 tons of material was recycled or reused.
